The MNI Chicago Report is a monthly report that characterizes expanding or contracting US economic activity through a survey panel of purchasing/supply-chain professionals. The survey panel, primarily drawn from membership of the Institute for Supply Management-Chicago (ISM-Chicago), consists of procurement managers from service and manufacturing companies located in the Chicagoland area. The MNI Chicago Report includes the Chicago Business Barometer, seven related Business Activity Indexes (Production, New Orders, Order Backlogs, Inventories, Employment, Supplier Deliveries and Prices Paid) and three Buying Policy Indexes (MRO Supplies, Production Materiel, Capital Equipment). The composite Chicago Business Barometer provides an overall gauge of business activity and is often referred to as the ₣ 1/64 29/64Chicago Purchasing Managers₣ 1/64 13/32 Index₣ 1/64 15/32 or ₣ 1/64 29/64Chicago PMI.₣ 1/64 15/32 The Chicago Business Barometer and its Business Activity indices are reported both as raw data and seasonally adjusted values (more/faster, same, less/slower ₣ 1/64 5/16 relative to the prior month) and illuminate trends in economic activity. The Chicago Business Barometer is computed from five weighted raw indices as follows: Production 0.25, New Orders 0.35, Order Backlogs 0.15, Employment 0.10 and Supplier Deliveries 0.15.
