The IPCA, or Extended National Consumer Price Index, is calculated by IBGE, or Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica, a government agency, and reflects the average cost of living in 11 major Brazilian cities for families with income up to 40 minimum salaries (See BZMW Index for Brazil minimum wage). The IPCA is used by the government to set benchmark interest rates and make monetary policy decisions. This index shows the accumulated 12 month Brazilian IPCA inflation rate on a monthly basis. Base Dec/1993=100.
