Sen. Bernie Sanders is perceived to be a hometown favorite and has opened up a large lead over rival Hillary Clinton in counties bordering his home state of Vermont, according to statement from Suffolk Univ. Poll

  • Martin O’Malley gets 2%; 6% undecided
  • “Familiarity and favorability are winning the day for Bernie Sanders,” says David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center
    • “Given voters’ thoughts about the gun control issue and who is more likely to win in November, the Clinton campaign might gain by pointing out Sanders’ vulnerabilities in these areas”
  • Poll was conducted Jan. 19-21 among 500 likely Democratic primary voters with 4.4 ppts margin of error
