AFL-CIO Says Clinton Speech Good Step; Studying All Candidates

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka praises Hillary Clinton’s economic speech as “important step” while stressing that the labor federation is “listening closely to all candidates.”

  • “Clinton is demonstrating that she understands our economy is out of whack,” Trumka says in statement
    • “We look forward to her adding specificity to the vision she laid out today”
  • NOTE: Clinton earlier today in NYC outlined broad vision of her policy goals if elected president; said supporting union workers is critical if U.S. “serious” about raising incomes
  • NOTE: Clinton also criticized Wis. Gov. Scott Walker for “stomping” on workers’ rights; Walker formally entered race for GOP presidential nomination today, prompting AFL-CIO to call him a “national disgrace
