The Political World Celebrates Father's Day on Social Media

Including a couple of presidential candidates with famous pops.

Politicians and their families on Sunday participated in a burgeoning Father's Day tradition, the flooding of social media with dad-themed tributes. 

Here are some of the highlights.

The Obama family

First lady Michelle Obama tweeted an old photo of President Barack Obama and their daughters, Malia and Sasha.

The Ohio Republican posted a vintage photo to Instagram of himself and his two daughters.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

The Democratic presidential candidate shared two family photos. One was of herself, former President Bill Clinton, and their daughter, Chelsea. “Doesn't this feel like yesterday?” she wrote:

The Republican presidential candidate shared a shot of herself and her father on Twitter.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul

The Republican presidential candidate posted a video about what he learned from his father, former Representative Ron Paul, who also ran for president, to his Facebook page.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush

As part of a “#JebNoFilter” series, the Republican presidential candidate posted a video to his Twitter and Facebook accounts talking about the worst Father's Day gift he's ever gotten. It was a book about weight loss from his sons. “I was really embarrassed and offended,” Bush said.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio

The Republican presidential candidate tweeted an old photograph of his father working as a bartender, a story he frequently weaves into his campaign rhetoric as he talks about how his parents worked to achieve the American dream.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie

The likely Republican presidential candidate shared a video of himself accepting a father-of-the-year award from the National Father's Day Council. “For me,” he said, “today is really recognition for the best thing that I get to do with my life.”

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson 

The Republican presidential candidate posted a video to his Facebook page wishing all dads a happy Father's Day. “No family is complete without the role of a father being played,” he said. To those without a father figure, as was the case for him growing up, he said, “It's ok to call your mother on Father's Day.”
