Rutgers Academic Gain Seen Buoyed by $25 Million Big Ten Subsidy

Chartered in 1766 as Queen’s College, Rutgers changed its name in 1825 to honor Revolutionary War veteran Henry Rutgers. In 1869, it played the first-ever college football game against what is now Princeton University.
