Italy Banks Waning Loan Quality Hurts Efforts to Boost Capital

UniCredit SpA, Italy’s biggest bank, has dropped 39 percent in Milan trading this year, giving the company a market value of 15 billion euros. Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, Italy’s No. 2 lender, has declined 20 percent, while Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA, the No. 3 bank, has dropped 26 percent.
