Beer Makers Cry Foul on French Levies as Wine Gets a Pass

The French government, which is seeking to reduce the country's deficit to 3 percent of gross domestic product in 2013 from a projected 4.5 percent shortfall this year, has raised the excise on beer production by 160 percent in a bid to raise 480 million euros in extra receipts.
