NEW YORK — Bloomberg LP today announced its commitment as an anchor participant in the New York City Carbon Challenge to Commercial Tenants. The Mayor’s Carbon Challenge is an invitation to the private sector to match New York City government’s goal to reduce its emissions by 30 percent in ten years, which is part of the broader PlaNYC goal to reduce citywide emissions 30 percent by 2030.
To meet this pledge Bloomberg LP will reduce its emissions from over 1.7 million square feet of leased property in New York City by a minimum of 10% over the next 10 years; this is in addition to the 30% abatement achieved to-date.
“Bloomberg has come a long way in reducing our carbon emissions, achieving our first goal of a 50% reduction of our global carbon footprint two years earlier than we planned,” said Dan Doctoroff, Bloomberg LP’s CEO & President. “But we’re also just getting started. We will continue to make significant strides in reducing our emissions, and we are proud to accept the Mayor’s Carbon Challenge to reduce our New York City building- based emissions by 40% as part of this important effort.”
