Purchasing Manager Indexes on the Bloomberg Professional service now come in another flavor. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is distributing its Report on Business, featuring its Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Indexes, directly through Bloomberg. This development allows more timely access by Bloomberg’s more than 320,000 subscribers to this market-moving private data release.

ISM has been providing an early look at the economy since 1931, minus a four year hiatus during World War II. The ISM Manufacturing Report on Business combines data from purchasing and supply executives throughout the country. The data is compiled from purchasing and supply executives nationwide through a confidential questionnaire designed to reveal changes in several factors, including employment, prices, changes in production and commodities.

One of the leading indicators of national economic conditions, ISM publishes its reports at the beginning of each month. This provides economists and investment professionals with an important data point in measuring sentiment, and is considered a leading indicator of national economic conditions.

Bloomberg is pleased to add ISM to the expanding number of real-time, market-moving economic indicators available on our economics calendar and analytics, including Bloomberg’s Economics Workbench. The Workbench provides extensive national and global economic analytics, including deep examination by Bloomberg’s team of economists.
