As we head towards World Cup next month, millions of fans around the globe will be looking for every piece of information possible to see how their favored nation stacks up against their opponents in the battle for football supremacy. Club allegiances will be put aside for the glory of the home country.
In the never ending quest to see which individuals are the best in “The Beautiful Game,” BSports has compiled its second annual “Power 50,” a comprehensive index of the world’s most recognized and lauded football players as well as some rising stars.
The “Power 50” uses advanced analytics to determine who the best players are amongst the five elite European Leagues from the 2013-14 season. The rankings provide a purely objective analysis that evaluates players in their respective positions and considers the context of opponent strength in each game throughout the season.
This year’s rankings have Luis Suarez of Liverpool FC atop the index with a BSports Rating (BSR) of 86.02. Lionel Messi (85.43) beat Zlatan Ibrahimovic (84.91) for second place and Cristiano Ronaldo (84.59) of Champions League finalist Real Madrid ranks fourth. Italy has the most players with seven, and England, Spain and Brazil have five. In terms of elite clubs, Atlético de Madrid (8) topped AS Roma (7) and Juventus (7). And, in the Barclay’s premier league, Manchester City landed four players among the elite 50.
The full BSports list of players can be found at www.bsports.com/Power50, along with a more detailed explanation of the methodology, so everyone can compare and contrast how
top players line up as the world looks to Brazil in June.
