When you think about all the technology companies that have come and gone over the past 30 years, you realize how rare it is to stay ahead of the innovation curve over the long haul. A big part of the reason Bloomberg has been able to do so is the extraordinary vision of our co-founder and head of Financial Products, Tom Secunda. For the second year in a row, Institutional Investor has chosen Tom to be first on the Tech 50 innovators list, writing that “Secunda and his team of 3,000 technologists…have continued to produce process and product innovations at a breakneck – and accelerating – pace.”

Since I joined the company five and a half years ago, I’ve marveled at Tom’s ability to not just build products our clients need today, but to anticipate solutions clients haven’t even dreamed of, yet in retrospect seem both obvious and essential. And in addition to being a tech visionary, Tom is also the torchbearer of Bloomberg’s unique culture. He keeps us true to our founding values – to challenge conventional wisdom, put our clients at the core of everything we do, and retain a scrappy startup mentality even as we’ve grown.
