How do you design something for a 3” by 4” iPhone screen that condenses the depth and breadth of the world’s most comprehensive financial data service? How do you create a spectacular user experience that is intuitive, efficient and delightful? Well, you do it by putting the most creative design minds to work on it. Give these folks a really challenging problem; add an aggressive timeline and – BAMM! -  a brilliant and award-worthy app is born!

Last week at the Parsons School of Design in New York, the Bloomberg Anywhere App for iPhone won the Grand Prize – or first place – at the premier international design competition, the User Experience Awards. The leading UX professional organizations UXPA, IXDA, and NYC-CHI host these awards to recognize the year’s best digital products, which solve intricate design challenges, conquer design challenges and optimize the digital user experience.

Bloomberg not only grabbed the top prize, Bloomberg’s UX team received tremendous accolades from the user experience community overcoming considerable design challenges, such as condensing massively complex information sets into consumable insights built for the iPhone’s screen. The Bloomberg Anywhere app also supports seamless navigation to multiple sub-apps so that a user can view the universe of Bloomberg data from the palm of their hand. This “app of apps” stretched the limits of the iOS platform and established a design framework for the Bloomberg Professional app on other mobile platforms.
