Silicon Valley Woman Serves Food as Eviction Looms

April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Virginia Valencia, an East Palo Alto, California, tenant facing eviction, prepares food for neighbors in a friend's garage in order to supplement her income as a cafeteria worker at Tesla Motors Inc. Valencia has been fighting eviction since she fell behind in November on her $1,064 rent payment for a one-bedroom rent-controlled apartment in a complex bought in 2011 by Equity Residential. The company, founded by real estate magnate Sam Zell, owns more than 70 percent of the regulated apartments in the city. (Source: Bloomberg)
