The Supreme Court kicked off its term this month with only 8 justices following the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The Court has been evenly divided since the death of Justice Scalia with four cases resulting in a tie. Senate Republicans have refused to hold confirmation hearings for Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama's nominee, insisting the next president should fill the vacancy, hanging the Court's future on the outcome of the election.
