What Could Lead to Three Fed Hikes Next Year?
21:30 - Investors betting the dollar’s May rally will continue face a major hurdle in a slipping U.S. economy and a Federal Reserve that promises to raise interest rates only if signs of growth and inflation warrant. The U.S. currency posted its best monthly gain in almost two years on speculation the Fed is getting closer to raising rates as soon as June. Yet economic indicators in the world’s biggest economy rank among the weakest in the world, and data have underperformed relative to forecasts throughout the year, as measured by Citigroup Inc.’s Economic Surprise Index.
