Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Sandy, the Atlantic Ocean superstorm, slammed into New Jersey late yesterday and churned toward Philadelphia, plunging millions into darkness, blacking out much of Manhattan south of the Empire State Building and claiming lives from North Carolina to New England.
