Australia Cuts Rates to Combat Disinflation
10:46 - Australia’s dollar slid after the central bank cut interest rates to a fresh record low, wrong-footing hedge funds betting on the currency’s strength, as well as a majority of economists. The Aussie weakened against all of its 31 major peers after Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Glenn Stevens and his board lowered the cash rate by 25 basis points to 1.75 percent, as predicted by 12 of 27 economists surveyed.
