Mets Sign Relief Pitcher Farnsworth to Minor-League Contract
The New York Mets signed free agent relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth to a minor-league contract and invited the right-hander to spring training.
Farnsworth, whose 38th birthday is in April, pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013, when he posted a 4.70 earned run average in 48 appearances.
In 15 years in Major League Baseball, Farnsworth has a 4.26 ERA. He spent his first six seasons with the Chicago Cubs before stints with the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals.
Farnsworth had a career-high 25 saves in 2011 with the Rays, when he went 5-1 with a 2.18 ERA. He was released by Tampa Bay in August after his ERA rose to 4.00 in 2012 and to 5.76 in 2013.
