Titans Hire Ex-Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt to Replace Munchak
The Tennessee Titans hired former Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt to guide a franchise that hasn’t won a National Football League playoff game since the 2003 season.
Whisenhunt, who spent this season as offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, succeeds Mike Munchak, who was fired two weeks ago after the Titans went 7-9 and missed the postseason for the fifth straight year.
Whisenhunt had a 45-51 record from 2007 through 2012 as the Cardinals’ coach. He guided Arizona to the Super Bowl after the 2008 season, where it lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before joining the Cardinals, Whisenhunt spent six seasons with the Steelers, including three years as offensive coordinator.
“Ken is a well-respected coach in this league and I am looking forward to seeing his vision become reality for this team,” Titans President Tommy Smith said in a statement. “He has a history of building successful offenses.”
