HSBC’s Norton to Head Latin American Commercial Banking
Norton, a managing director at the London-based bank, will focus in particular on markets in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, according to an e-mailed statement from HSBC. He moved to Sao Paulo from New York to take the job.
HSBC generated about 15 percent of its revenue from Latin America in 2012, data compiled by Bloomberg show. The company was the biggest underwriter of international bonds sold in Latin America and in Brazil last year, the data show.
With 163.1 billion reais ($69 billion) in total assets, HSBC is the seventh-biggest lender in Brazil, according to central bank data as of September. The company has total equity of 9.97 billion reais and 29,830 employees in the country.
