Beat the heat at the 4th annual Bushwick Block Party on Saturday beginning at noon. Leon Botstein has found another worthy unknown work: Russian composer Sergey Taneyev’s “Oresteia,” based on the ill-fated House of Atreus. The imaginative Thaddeus Strassberger directs the U.S. premiere, with Botstein conducting the American Symphony Orchestra. Part of Bard SummerScape, the opera’s first performance is on Friday. It’s time for the Mostly Mozart Festival and you can get a free preview on Saturday night, when Louis Langree conducts Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. There’s a new musical based on the Bard’s “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” about men who rashly decide to swear off women. With songs by Michael Friedman, it’s directed by Alex Timbers. Don’t miss the moving Walker Evans show at the Museum of Modern Art.
