Grand National-Winning Jockey Mania Is Injured in Fall, BBC Says
Grand National-winning jockey Ryan Mania was airlifted to the hospital today after he was injured in a fall at Hexham racecourse in northeast England, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Mania won yesterday’s National at Aintree near Liverpool on 66-1 shot Auroras Encore. Today, his mount Stagecoach Jasper came down on the final circuit of a handicap hurdle event. Mania received medical attention for 25 minutes on the track before being taken away in an air ambulance.
Mania sustained neck and back injuries, the BBC reported, citing a spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance. He’s has been given painkillers and is currently in a stable condition, the broadcaster added.
