The Senate Finance Committee today approved former White House chief of staff Jack Lew to become the U.S. Treasury secretary.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, said yesterday that the full Senate plans to vote on Lew this week.
Lew is expected to receive confirmation to succeed Timothy F. Geithner, who left the Treasury last month.
Today’s vote was 19 to 5 on the Democrat-controlled committee.
