Copper advanced in London before a government report on U.S. building permits that economists say will show expansion even as new residential construcion cooled.

-- Aluminum advanced 0.2 percent to $2,116 a ton. RSI 53.
-- Nickel dropped 0.1 percent to $17,370 a ton. RSI 39.
-- Lead advanced 0.3 percent to $2,383 a ton. RSI 49.
-- Tin was down 0.2 percent at $23,870 a ton. RSI 35.
-- Zinc climbed 0.1 percent to $2,157.50 a ton. RSI 55.
