Azarenka Wins Second Set Against Williams, Evens U.S. Open Final
Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won the second set of the U.S. Open women’s final 6-2 against Serena Williams, evening the match at one set apiece and sending it to a decisive third set.
Williams, a fourth-seeded American and three-time champion, won the first set 6-2.
It is the first three-set women’s final since 1995 at the U.S. Open, when Steffi Graf defeated Monica Seles.
Azarenka has a 12-0 record in three-set matches this year. Williams is 6-1 in three-setters in 2012.
