The Bovespa (IBOV) Index rose 0.5 percent to 65,368.49.
Brasil Brokers Participacoes SA (BBRK3) (BBRK3 BS) gained 6.5 percent to 7.40 reais, the highest since Sept. 8. The company signed a contract to acquire competing real estate brokerage Bamberg Planejamento & Empreendimento Imobiliarios, according to a regulatory filing yesterday.
BM&FBovespa SA (BVMF3) (BVMF3 BS) fell 2.2 percent to 12.04 reais. Fourth-quarter profit at the operator of Latin America’s biggest securities exchange fell short of forecasts as expenses increased and trading volumes declined. Adjusted net income was 352.7 million reais ($205 million), below the average estimate of 377.3 million reais from nine analysts surveyed by Bloomberg, according to a regulatory filing yesterday.
Homebuilders gained as traders bet the central bank will keep cutting borrowing costs after a report showed Brazilian inflation slowed. Cyrela Brazil Realty SA Empreendimentos e Participacoes (CYRE3 BS) advanced 5.1 percent to 18.09 reais. Brookfield Incorporacoes SA (BISA3) (BISA3) (BISA3 BS) added 2.7 percent to 6.75 reais.
Companhia Siderurgica Nacional SA (CSN) (CSNA3 BS) slid 2.4 percent to 17.45 reais, the lowest since Jan. 19. The steelmaker was cut to “neutral” at Credit Suisse and to “underweight” at Morgan Stanley.
