Turkey Gets 26 Applicants for Russian Gas Import Licences

By Ercan Ersoy - Nov 23, 2011

Twenty-six Turkish and international companies applied for licences to import up to six billion cubic meters a year of Russian natural gas for sale in Turkey, the energy market regulator said.

The regulator in Ankara gave the applicants 10 days to establish that they’ve agreed with Gazprom OAO (GAZP) on sales contracts, a requirement for winning an import licence, the regulator said in an e-mailed statement.

Applicants include OMV AG (OMV), Aygaz AS (AYGAZ), Zorlu, Aksa, and Turcas Petrol AS (TRCAS), according to the statement.

There’ll be up to 4 billion cubic meters imported a year between 2012 and 2014, rising to 5 billion in 2015 and 6 billion in 2016, it said.
