Mitsubishi, Plaza Create, Toshiba, Toyota: Japan Equity Preview
The following companies may have unusual price changes in Japanese trading today. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are as of the latest close. The information in each item was released after markets shut unless stated otherwise.
Astellas Pharma Inc. (4503 JT): The drugmaker will pay Aveo Pharmaceuticals Inc. $125 million up front and up to $1.3 billion more for the rights to develop and sell an experimental cancer drug in markets outside of Asia, the companies said. The shares fell 1.5 percent to 3,265 yen.
Fukuoka REIT Corp. (8968 JT): The real estate investment trust will sell new shares to the public for 576,083 yen each to raise 8.9 billion yen ($106 million), according to a filing with Japan’s finance ministry. The stock gained 1.5 percent to 610,000 yen.
Honda Motor Co. (7267 JT): The carmaker may buy back an additional 40 billion yen ($490 million) of shares before the March 31 end of its fiscal year, the Nikkei newspaper reported. The figure is based on the Japanese automaker’s goal of returning 30 percent of profit to shareholders, the paper said. Honda fell 0.8 percent to 3,655 yen.
Mitsubishi Corp. (8058 JT): SBM Offshore NV and Mitsubishi signed a long-term agreement to lease and operate floating oil production and storage units worldwide, the company said in a statement. Mitsubishi, Japan’s biggest commodity trader, sank 0.3 percent to 2,385 yen.
Otsuka Holdings Co. (4578 JT) and Ito En Ltd. (2593 JT): The companies agreed to sell each other’s products through their vending machine networks. Otsuka, a drugmaker, lost 1.6 percent to 1,999 yen. Ito En rose 0.1 percent to 1,424 yen.
Plaza Create Co. (7502 JQ): The photo-processing store chain said it will retire 24.79 percent of its total shares on March 10. The stock surged 15 percent to 560 yen.
Resona Holdings Inc. (8308 JT): The lender will repay 850 billion yen in public funds by buying back shares from the Japanese government, the Asahi newspaper reported, without saying where it obtained the information. The shares gained 5.4 percent to 446 yen.
Toshiba Corp. (6502 JT): The nuclear reactor supplier is offering to sell electricity from a proposed Turkish nuclear power plant for as low as $0.1 per kilowatt-hour, Aksam newspaper reported. The stock climbed 3.2 percent to 549 yen.
Toyobo Co. (3101 JT): The textile maker said it will pay $5 million to settle a lawsuit with Second Chance Body Armor Inc. of the U.S. over the zylon fiber bulletproof vest damages. Toyobo slipped 0.7 percent to 152 yen.
Toyota Motor Corp. (7203 JT): The world’s biggest carmaker is aiming to post an operating profit at its parent company level on a monthly basis by the end of next fiscal year, said Executive Vice President Atsushi Niimi. The stock slid 0.1 percent to 3,905 yen.
