Australia Beats England by 4 Wickets in One-Day Match for 3-0 Series Lead
David Hussey hit an unbeaten 68 as Australia beat England by four wickets in the third one-day cricket international in Sydney to take a 3-0 lead in the best- of-seven contest.
Hussey helped the hosts recover from 100-5 to reach their victory target with four overs to spare. Earlier, Brett Lee took 3-27 as England was bowled out for 214.
Australia now only requires one victory from the remaining four matches to be assured of winning the series. The teams are preparing for the sport’s World Cup, co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which runs from Feb. 19 to April 2.
John Hastings, playing his third one-day international, supported Hussey at the end of Australia’s innings, contributing 18 not out in his team’s 215-6. Wicketkeeper-opener Brad Haddin scored 54.
Earlier, England wicketkeeper Matt Prior, who opened for the visitors, failed to score for a second straight match since being selected in the World Cup squad. He was bowled by Lee in the opening over.
Jonathan Trott top-scored with 84 not out, while Luke Wright hit 32.
The next match is in Adelaide on Jan. 26.
