Auburn Quarterback Cam Newton to Declare for NFL Draft, Skip Senior Season
Auburn quarterback Cam Newton will skip his senior season and declare for the National Football League draft, he said today in a video statement on the school’s website.
Newton, 21, who led the Tigers to a perfect season and the college national chanpionship with a 22-19 victory against Oregon three days ago, spent one year at Auburn after transferring there from Blinn College, a junior college in Texas.
“I think it’s best that I make that next step in my career to forgo my senior season and to enter the NFL draft,” he said in the videotape. “It was a very hard decision for me, a bittersweet decision, especially after coming off a great season at Auburn.”
