Labor Party Loses Support in States; Gillard Seen as Preferred Leader
Support for the incumbent Australian Labor Party has fallen to 34 percent in the state of New South Wales since the August federal election, from 37.7 percent, according to a Newspoll published in the Australian newspaper. The party’s primary vote has declined to 37 percent in Victoria from 42.8 percent, while Prime Minister Julia Gillard is still preferred over opposition leader Tony Abbott, the opinion poll shows.
