AES Corp., an Arlington, Virginia- based power producer, idled output at a natural gas-fired unit at a Southern California plant.
The company’s 225-megawatt Huntington Beach Generating Station Unit 3 was completely offline as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report. The shutdown was unplanned.
The generating plant has a total capacity of 904 megawatts, according to the website of AES. One megawatt can power 800 typical U.S. homes.
