Omnia, Royal Bafokeng, Gold One: South African Equity Preview
The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.
The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index increased for a fourth day, adding 279, or 0.9 percent, to 31,655.93.
Bauba Platinum Ltd. (BAU SJ): The explorer of platinum group metals said it will oppose an application by ARM Mining Consortium Ltd. and Rustenburg Platinum Mines Ltd. for the review of the South African government’s decision to grant Bauba prospecting rights to certain farms in the Eastern Bushveld Complex of South Africa. Bauba declined 5 cents, or 1.8 percent, to 2.75 rand.
Gold One International Ltd. (GDO SJ): The gold producer said the indicated resource at its Ventersburg project increased by 70 percent. The stock gained 6 cents, or 2.5 percent, to 2.45 rand.
Omnia Holdings Ltd. (OMN SJ): Southern Africa’s largest fertilizer maker posted net income of 165 million rand ($24 million) for the six months through September after a loss of 99 million rand a year earlier. Omnia declined 2.22 rand, or 3.2 percent, to 67.27 rand.
Royal Bafokeng Platinum Ltd. (RBP SJ): The platinum-mining company said it approved a seven year, 1.27 billion-rand expansion at its Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine in Rustenburg. The stock advanced 75 cents, or 1.2 percent, to 65.95 rand.
Steinhoff International Holdings Ltd. (SHF SJ): The furniture maker said most of its operations continue to perform as they did in the first quarter. Steinhoff lost 9 cents, or 0.4 percent, to 21.90 rand.
Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:
Anglo American Plc (AAUK US) rose 0.5 percent to $24.12. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) declined 0.5 percent to $49.60. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) rose 0.5 percent to $76.96. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) gained 2 percent to $4.99. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) advanced 0.1 percent to $18.13. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) rose 2.3 percent to $12.69. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) fell 1.8 percent to $32.20. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) rose 0.4 percent to $5.31. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) added 1.9 percent to $48.19.
