Exxon Reports Leaking Valve at Beaumont Refinery
Exxon Mobil Corp. isolated and contained a valve leak at a coker gas plant at its Beaumont, Texas, refinery, according to a company spokesman.
“Production was not impacted,” said Kevin Allexon, a spokesman for Exxon, in an e-mail.
Workers used the coker flare to reduce emissions as they attempted to fix the leak, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Emissions associated with the incident began at 2:05 p.m. local time yesterday and were expected to last 24 hours.
The Beaumont refinery reported a process upset that lead to flaring yesterday, according to a separate filing made with the National Response Center.
The refinery has a capacity of about 360,000 barrels a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
