German Retailers Have ‘Dream Start’ to Holiday Season, HDE Says
German retail sales were higher than expected at the weekend as customers bought Christmas presents earlier than last year, an industry group said.
Retailers had a “dream start” to the season’s business and are forecasting a further sales increase in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the German Retail Federation, or HDE, said in a statement on its Web site today.
Germans will spend 76.9 billion euros ($102 billion) in November and December, 2.5 percent more than last year and the strongest growth since 2004, the HDE has forecast.
