Chevron Reports Vapor Release at El Segundo Refinery
Chevron Corp. released ammonia into the atmosphere from its El Segundo refinery in Southern California earlier today, according to a filing with state regulators.
The release came from the refinery heater during the “annual test source of the heater,” according to a filing with the California Emergency Management Agency. The incident happened at 10:09 a.m. local time, the filing showed.
Rod Spackman, a Chevron spokesman, didn’t immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
The El Segundo plant can process 260,000 barrels of crude a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The refinery is the largest in California, according to the U.S. Energy Department.
