Isiah Thomas to Withdraw From Consultant Role with Knicks, NY Times Says
Isiah Thomas will withdraw from his new role as a consultant with the New York Knicks amid questions about whether his appointment would violate National Basketball Association rules, the New York Times said.
The newspaper said Thomas and the Knicks are expected to issue statements tonight saying that Thomas will not return to the team and will focus on his job as coach of Florida International University.
The NBA had been reviewing whether Thomas’s dual roles were compatible with league rules. The Times said NBA Commissioner David Stern spoke earlier today with Thomas, who was fired by the Knicks as coach and president in 2008.
