Manchester City Set to Sell Adebayor, Bridge, Sun Says: Soccer Roundup

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to sell 50 million pounds ($76 million) of players, including Emmanuel Adebayor, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Stephen Ireland this summer and use the proceeds to bid for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, the Sun reported.
Real Madrid’s Evra Bid?
Real Madrid may offer as much as 20 million pounds for Manchester United defender Patrice Evra after a recommendation from his friend Cristiano Ronaldo, the Daily Mail reported. The Spanish team is also interested in signing Arsenal’s Gael Clichy, Ashley Cole of Chelsea and Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas, the paper said.
West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola may step down at the end of the season, the Daily Telegraph quoted club co-chairman David Sullivan as saying.
Sullivan, who bought the team in January and has put the entire first-team squad except for Scott Parker up for sale, told the paper Zola had “indicated he might resign at the end of the season.”
Zola has two years left on his contract, which is worth 1.9 million pounds a year. Former England manager Steve McClaren and ex-Chelsea manager Avram Grant are on the list to replace him, the paper said.
United Prepares for Post-Ferguson Era
Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill has identified at least two possible candidates to succeed manager Alex Ferguson, the Sun reported.
Ferguson recently denied he would quit the team he has led for more than 23 years in 2011. He has a “tacit understanding” with United that he can leave at a day’s notice, the Sun said.
Barcelona Targets Taylor
Barcelona may make an offer this summer for Newcastle and England Under-21 defender Steven Taylor, the Daily Mirror said.
Taylor has a year left on his contract, which is worth 30,000 pounds a week. Everton and Aston Villa are also interested in signing him.
