    The 2.0T is powered by a 2.0-liter, 211-horsepower twin turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers a whopping 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Horsepower rises to 270 in the V6-powered Q5 3.2, but torque falls slightly to 243 lb.-ft.

    The transmission is an eight-speed Tiptronic on the Q5 2.0T, a six-speed Tiptronic on the V6-powered Q5 3.2. Those who wish to can shift manually using the shift lever on the center console. All-wheel drive is standard on both models.

    Acceleration is excellent, but can't quite match the new BMW X3. Audi says the Q5 2.0T accelerates from zero to 60 in 7.1 seconds, vs. 6.7 seconds for both the BMW X3 xDrive28i and the Q5 3.2. The BMW X3 xDrive35i does zero to 60 in just 5.5 seconds.

    The Audi Q5 2.0T is rated at 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway, for an average of 22. That bests the BMW X3 xDrive28i (19/25/21), the V6-powered Q5 3.2 (18/23/20), and the all-wheel-drive Acura RDX (17/22/19).

    The Q5 earned the top "Good" rating in all categories from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Standard equipment includes stability and traction control, and front-seat side and head-protecting side-curtain air bags. Rear side air bags are optional ($350).

    The Q5 2.0T starts at $36,075, the V6-powered Q5 3.2 at $43,375. The Q5 faces stiff competition from the new BMW X3, which went down in price when it was redesigned for 2011. The BMW X3 xDrive28i starts at $37,625, the X3 xDrive35i at $41,925.
