Independent Sports & Entertainment, the athlete management and sports-related investment company controlled by billionaire Ron Burkle, named Adidas executive Chris Grancio as its chief marketing officer.
Grancio, 41, had been the general manager of global basketball for the sneaker and apparel company, where he managed its partnership with the NBA and player endorsement contracts. At ISE, he’ll be responsible for developing new revenue streams, creating corporate partnerships and landing local, national and international deals for the firm’s more than 300 NFL, NBA and MLB clients.
ISE, which is based in New York, will also begin investing in sports and entertainment technology, said ISE Chief Executive Officer Hank Ratner, the former CEO of Madison Square Garden. In his new role, Grancio will also oversee the company’s expansion into film, digital content, television, fashion, live events, and the retail and hospitality industries.
The athletes managed by ISE include baseball’s two-time MVP Miguel Cabrera, basketball’s DeMarcus Cousins and football’s Larry Fitzgerald. Burkle also owns the NHL franchise in Pittsburgh, which is for sale.
