Manulife Hires RBC’s Mantia as Operating Chief, Replacing Rooney

  • Mantia was executive VP digital, payments, cards at Royal Bank
  • Rooney to stay with company through December to aid transition

Manulife Financial Corp. appointed Linda Mantia as chief operating officer, replacing Paul Rooney, who’s leaving Canada’s largest life insurer.

Mantia was previously executive vice president of digital, payments and cards at Royal Bank of Canada and starts with the insurer Oct. 3, according to a statement Wednesday from Toronto-based Manulife.

Chief Executive Officer Donald Guloien is reshaping management as he seeks to make the company more responsive to tech-savvy consumers. Mantia will lead corporate strategy, policies, standards, and the “innovation portfolio,” according to the statement.

“Linda is a collaborative, innovative and transformative leader, with deep roots in digital disruption and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences” Guloien said in the statement.

Rooney, who joined the company in 1986 and was in the COO role for about four years, is staying with the company through December to assist with the transition, Manulife said.
