A three-month-long blackout of Tribune Media Co.’s local broadcast stations and WGN America on Dish Network Corp.’s satellite system ended when the companies reached a long-term agreement on carriage and retransmission rights.
Terms weren’t disclosed. Dish said the Tribune stations should be back on its system by Saturday evening.
Tribune blacked out 42 local channels in 33 markets for Dish customers in June. Dish had said the disagreement stemmed from Tribune’s demand to increase prices while packaging WGN America with the local stations.
Such disputes have become common, particularly for Dish, as programmers and pay-TV operators struggle to hold off competition from online providers such as Netflix Inc.
