France’s foreign ministry has confirmed that a French national has been arrested near Townsville in Queensland, Australia after the murder of a British person.

According to the Associated Press, the assailant shouted "Allah is great" in Arabic as he carried out the stabbing. The attacker has no known connection with the Islamic State, AP said. 

France is cooperating with the Australian investigation into the attack, which also left a a second British person and an Australian wounded, the foreign ministry statement added.
