Zambian Police Arrest 151 After Riots in Opposition Strongholds

Zambian police arrested 151 people after riots broke out in parts of the country’s Southern province following the announcement that Edgar Lungu had been re-elected as president, police spokesman Rae Hamoonga said.

Protests broke out in at least five towns in Southern province, where opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema won most of the votes, police commissioner for the province, Godwin Phiri, said in comments broadcast by state television. Rioters burned at least four shops and two houses in places including the provincial capital, he said.
