Day-to-day drama has been largely absent from this quarter’s record-setting advance in the S&P 500 Index. The gap between daily highs and lows averaged 0.64 percentage point as of Monday, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. This would be the narrowest spread for a full quarter since U.S. stocks started the current bull market, as shown in the chart, or at any other time since 1993.
