Citadel hired 17 money managers from Visium Asset Management’s multi-strategy fund to oversee equities across multiple sectors, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The managers will be based in San Francisco and New York and report to Richard Schimel, who joined Citadel last month to run a new equity unit, said the person. Visium struck a deal last month to sell the fund, Visium Global, to AllianceBernstein Holding LP, which was to acquire that fund’s investment professionals and some support staff.

The Wall Street Journal reported the news of the hiring plans earlier today.
