• Units to be emirate’s first with concentrated solar technology
  • DEWA to announce solar plan at news conference on Thursday

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority is seeking partners to help build 1,000 megawatts of solar-power plants as the Persian Gulf emirate works to diversify its energy sources, according to two people with knowledge of the information.

The planned facilities will be the first utility-scale plants in Dubai to use concentrated solar power technology, according to the people, who asked not to be identified since the company hasn’t publicly announced the information.

DEWA, the emirate’s government-run utility, will hold a news conference in Dubai on Thursday to announce a renewable energy project, according to a media invitation from the company. The utility didn’t immediately comment prior to the planned conference.
