- Himeno ranked top transport analyst by Nikkei Veritas in 2016
- Citigroup has hired at least three others in Japan since April
Citigroup Inc. hired Ryota Himeno, Japan’s top-ranked transportation analyst, to boost coverage as it expands in the country.
Himeno, who used to work at Barclays Plc, will join Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc. starting Wednesday, according to a statement from the company. Himeno has 11 years of experience as an analyst.
Citigroup has been adding staff for its corporate and institutional client businesses in Japan after withdrawing from retail banking in the country last year. Barclays is closing its cash equities operation in Japan, cutting 80 equity research and sales positions, as part of its global pullback from investment banking.
Citigroup last week hired Takashi Hashimoto, former head of Japanese equity research at Barclays, after adding former Bank of Japan official Katsuhiko Aiba and Yusuke Asai, a former managing director at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in April.
Himeno was ranked the top transportation and warehousing analyst by Nikkei Veritas for a third time this year.
