John Aylward, a portfolio manager at Highbridge Capital Management LLC in London, is leaving the firm at the end of the month to set up his own credit fund, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Aylward will start Sona Asset Management in September, said the person, who isn’t authorized to speak about it and asked not to be identified. Sona, which takes its name from the Irish word for fortunate, will make long and short investments in European credit, the person said.

Aylward joined Highbridge in 2014 after four years managing money at Claren Road Asset Management LLC. He was previously head of high-yield trading at Deutsche Bank AG.

A spokesman for Highbridge declined to comment on Aylward’s departure.
